Product Name: Sidena 50 mg Tablets.

Composition: Each tablet contains, 50 mg sildenafil (as citrate).

Indication(s): Treatment of men with erectile dysfunction, which is the inability to achieve or maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.

Dosage: Adults and elderly: 50 mg taken as needed approximately one hour before sexual activity. Dose may be decreased to 25 mg. Max dose: 50mg once daily.

Sidena is an over-the-counter pharmacy medicine, available online and instore, for men over 18 with erectile dysfunction (ED). Sidena contains sildenafil, the same active ingredient as the prescribed medicine, and is available in in packs of four or eight tablets. Sidena should start to work within 30-60 minutes. Sexual stimulation is required. Always read the label.

Who should use Sidena? 

Sidena is available to buy online and instore for adult men (over 18 years of age) who have repeated symptoms of erectile dysfunction.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to gain or maintain an erection, sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is a very common problem, affecting half of Irish men over 50.

Most men will experience some sort of difficulty in getting an erection over their lives. This difficulty for some men will only be a temporary problem and will often be related back to a specific set of circumstances such as stress, tiredness or even alcohol intake. Erectile Dysfunction is only a problem when it is persistent and recurring. While Erectile Dysfunction is more common in older men, it can occur at any age.

Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by physical conditions such as Diabetes, uncontrolled High Blood Pressure and Vascular Disease (this is the narrowing of blood vessels) and can be an ‘early warning sign’ of heart disease. Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by conditions that affect your nerves and hormonal balance. Psychological issues such as stress, depression and anxiety can also contribute to Erectile Dysfunction. In most cases Erectile Dysfunction is caused by a combination of both physical and psychological factors.

Since erectile dysfunction symptoms can vary, some men might want to speak to a healthcare professional before they begin to treat it.  Speak to your GP or a pharmacist if you’re concerned about symptoms.

When is Sidena not suitable?

If you are a woman, a man under the age of 18, or do not have erectile dysfunction, then Sidena isn’t the right treatment for you. Some medicines and health conditions may mean Sidena may not be suitable for you. Our pharmacist will discuss any other medications you may be taking or any health conditions you may suffer from as part of the consultation to determine if Sidena is suitable for you.

Do not take Sidena if you:
• Do not have an erection problem
• Take any nitrate medicine for chest pain or heart failure
• Take amyl nitrite, so called “poppers” as recreational drugs
• Take riociguat (or other guanylate cyclase stimulators) for high blood pressure in the lungs
• Take ritonavir for the treatment of HIV
• Have been advised by your doctor to avoid sexual activity because of a problem with your heart or blood vessels
• Have a severe heart problem such as a recent heart attack or stroke (within the last 6 months), unstable angina (chest pain) or severe cardiac failure (reduced pumping capacity of the heart)
• Have a severe liver problem
• Have low blood pressure (below 90/50 mmHg) which can cause symptoms such as tiredness, dizziness, light-headedness, feeling sick, clammy skin, depression, loss of consciousness, or blurry vision
• Have ever had severe vision loss because of nerve damage in the eyes, such as non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION); or have a rare inherited eye disease, such as retinitis pigmentosa
• Have a deformed penis
• Are a woman
• Are under 18 years of age
• Are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in Patient Information Leaflet)
