Nurofen for children contains the active ingredient ibuprofen. Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). These medicines work by changing how the body responds to pain, and high body temperature. This product has been specifically formulated for children as it is given by mouth to reduce fever and relieve symptoms of mild to moderate pain. You must talk to a doctor if your child does not feel better or if your child feels worse after 3 days.
Warnings and Precautions:
Do not give this medicine to your child if:
They suffer from hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in this medicine (see section 6)
They have ever had a reaction (e.g. asthma, runny nose, rash, swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat or stomach bleeding) after taking ibuprofen, aspirin or other non steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medicines
They weigh less than 5kg or are under 3 months of age
They are taking any other anti-inflammatory (NSAID) painkillers, or aspirin
They have (or have had two or more episodes of) a stomach ulcer, perforation of bleeding
They have severe kidney, heart or liver failure
They have inherited problems coping with fructose/fruit sugar (hereditary fructose intolerance). This is because the body can make some fructose from the ingredient maltitol
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Contradictions:
Nurofen for children is contraindicated:
In patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients used in this formulation.
In patients who have previously shown hypersensitivity (e.g. bronchospasm, asthma, rhinitis, angioedem or urticaria) associated with acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicinal products.
In patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, related to previous NSAID therapy.
In patients with active, or a history of recurrent peptic ulcer/haemorrhage (two or more distinct episodes of proven ulceration or bleeding).
In patients with cerebrovascular or other active bleeding.
In patients with severe hepatic failure or severe renal failure.
In patients with severe heart failure (NYHA IV)
In patients with unclarified blood-formation disturbances.
During the last trimester of pregnancy
In patients with severe dehydration (caused by vomiting, diarrhoea or insufficient fluid intake).

Children 6 - 9 years (20-29kg) - 5ml (one large end of the spoon) up to three times a day.
Children 10 - 12 years (20-29kg) - 7.5ml (one large end of the spoon and one small end of the spoon) up to three times a day.
Nurofen for children is recommended for short term use one.
Nurofen for children is dosed based on the child's age or body weight.
Always refer to the package information leaflet to select the correct dose based on the child's age or weight.
Do not give more frequently than at 6 hour intervals.
